I love New Years! I love the idea of a new beginning, a blank slate…and then I’m quickly disillusioned to bringing whatever I had going on previously into the new year. I’ve started to not begin my new year until February. I feel as though it takes me that long to sort out what worked the previous year, and what I’d like to improve or do differently.
One thing I’m very glad I did was start bringing things into the teachers lounge at my daughter’s school! Every week, I bring in some new table clothes and some flowers for the table. Simple, yet all the teachers have expressed what a difference it makes to come in and see that someone has done that for them. It’s not much. I’m not going crazy with it, yet it makes them feel cared for and appreciated. What could be better than that? It made me wonder what else I might do in my life that could make others feel noticed and appreciated. I hope to do more of that this year.
This year I have goals and aspirations, per usual, but I also chose a word that I’d like to represent this year. Actually, I chose two.
The first is Lighter.
Lighter in every way – blonder 😆, more positive and radiant, dealing with and setting down emotional baggage (do I want to bring this into my future? No. Set it down then. Lighter!), weight – yes, that too, debts – both financial and karmic. I found that word all encompassing for me this year. And I hope at the end of the year, I’ll be able to say that I do indeed feel Lighter. ☺️
The other word I chose was Revival. I’ve buried some dreams. Being in thick of motherhood can leave the best of us shelving those whispers as we can often feel depleted. But who does it really serve to put those off? I’d like to revive some of those dreams. I found a poem by Yung Pueblo that resonated with me:
Her rebirth was stunning
She lifted herself up
From the depths of despair,
Grasped her dreams,
Embedded them in her heart,
And walked forward into
A future that only her will
And vision could control

I’ve over here chasing the slow drawl of summer that allows us to linger in …
